James Howard Kunstler is an American author, journalist, social critic, and public speaker. He began his writing career in journalism at the Boston Phoenix and later worked as an editor and staff writer for Rolling Stone before becoming a full-time author. He writes both nonfiction about suburban development, urban planning, architecture, and energy decline—including The Geography of Nowhere and The Long Emergency—and fiction, notably the post-economic-collapse World Made by Hand series.
