Michael Francis Flynn (1947–2023) was an American science-fiction author who began publishing in 1984 and became a regular contributor to Analog Science Fiction and Fact. He wrote the four-book Firestar sequence, the Spiral Arm novels, and acclaimed standalone works including Eifelheim, while also publishing short fiction, essays, and poetry. Flynn was a two-time Prometheus Award winner, a Hugo nominee, and the first recipient of the Robert A. Heinlein Award.
