Louis A. Meyer (1942–2014), who wrote under the name L. A. Meyer, was a Maine-based author and painter best known for the 12-book Bloody Jack Adventures, a young-adult historical series following Jacky Faber’s seafaring exploits. He also wrote children’s picture books, including The Gypsy Bears, and developed the Bloody Jack concept while listening to British and Celtic folk music.
