Michelle McNamara (1970–2016) was a true-crime writer and journalist who earned an MFA in creative writing from the University of Minnesota before moving to Los Angeles, where she wrote television pilots and a screenplay. She founded the influential crime blog True Crime Diary and contributed extensively to investigative crime writing, including a major Los Angeles Magazine feature on the Golden State Killer. Her acclaimed book, I'll Be Gone in the Dark, was completed with assistance from collaborators and published posthumously in 2018.
