P. J. O’Rourke (1947–2022) was an American author, journalist, and political satirist who wrote twenty-two books about politics, cars, etiquette, economics, and culture. He began his writing career with National Lampoon, later became Rolling Stone’s foreign-affairs desk chief, and reported from dozens of countries and numerous conflict zones. He also wrote for publications including The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, and The Weekly Standard, and was a longtime panelist on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me.
