Benjamin Alire Sáenz is an American poet, novelist, short-story writer, and author of children's and young adult literature. He began his literary career with the poetry collection Calendar of Dust in 1991 and went on to publish acclaimed adult and young adult fiction, including Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe and Everything Begins and Ends at the Kentucky Club, which won the 2013 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. His writing often explores identity, family, sexuality, trauma, and Mexican American life along the U.S.-Mexico border.
