Sam Roberts is a veteran New York journalist who has written for The New York Times since 1983. He served as the paper’s Urban Affairs correspondent and later became an obituaries reporter, writing nearly 1,500 obituaries. He is the author of several nonfiction books about New York, including The New Yorkers, A History of New York in 27 Buildings, A History of New York in 101 Objects, and Grand Central: How a Train Station Transformed America.
