Charles Bracelen Flood was a Harvard-trained writer whose career began with novels, including Love Is a Bridge, A Distant Drum, and More Lives Than One. He also worked as an Associated Press reporter, wrote for publications such as The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Esquire, and later became known for acclaimed narrative histories and biographies. His nonfiction focuses especially on American history, the Civil War, and prominent historical figures, including Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, and Abraham Lincoln.
