Robert Conroy (1938–2014) was an American author best known for meticulously researched alternate-history novels built around pivotal military and political “what if” scenarios. After retiring from teaching business and economic history, he began writing fiction, starting with 1901 and later publishing novels including 1862, 1942, 1945, Red Inferno: 1945, Himmler’s War, Rising Sun, 1920: America’s Great War, and Liberty: 1784. His novel 1942 won the Sidewise Award for Best Long-Form Alternate History, and he also wrote for Military History Magazine.
