His writing career spans journalism, history, biography, and cultural criticism, with work appearing in publications including the New York Amsterdam News, The Black Scholar, Essence, Emerge, and Down Beat. His books explore African American history, civil rights, Black culture, and figures such as Malcolm X, James Baldwin, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Yusef Lateef.
