Joseph Kelly is a professor of literature and history and director of Irish and Irish American Studies at the College of Charleston in South Carolina. He began his writing career as a literary critic with Our Joyce: From Outcast to Icon, later turning to narrative American history and democracy with America’s Longest Siege, Marooned, and The Biggest Lie. He also edits the Seagull Reader anthology series.
