Jean Parker Shepherd (1921–1999) was an American humorist, satirist, storyteller, and author whose writing grew from the improvised monologues and nostalgic recollections he delivered on his long-running WOR radio program. He published humorous short-story collections including In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash, Wanda Hickey’s Night of Golden Memories, The Ferrari in the Bedroom, and A Fistful of Fig Newtons. His semi-autobiographical stories also became the basis for the screenplay and narration of the 1983 film A Christmas Story.
