Ben Fountain is an American writer whose career spans novels, short fiction, and narrative nonfiction. After practicing law in Dallas, he became a full-time fiction writer in 1988. His 2006 story collection Brief Encounters with Che Guevara won the PEN/Hemingway Award, and his 2012 debut novel Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk won the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction and was adapted into a film directed by Ang Lee. He has also written the nonfiction book Beautiful Country Burn Again and the novels Devil Makes Three and Rasputin Swims the Potomac.
