John Birmingham is a British-born Australian author, journalist, and blogger who began publishing in the 1990s. He first gained broad recognition with the memoir He Died with a Felafel in His Hand, then moved into fiction with the Axis of Time alternate-history series and later the military space-opera series The Cruel Stars. He has also written thrillers, crime fiction, essays, and other nonfiction, and has contributed to publications including The Sydney Morning Herald, Rolling Stone, and The Monthly.
