Sydney Taylor (1904–1978), born Sarah Brenner, was an American author of children’s literature best known for the five-book All-of-a-Kind Family series. She began her professional writing career after winning a 1950 children’s manuscript competition, and her largely autobiographical novels drew on her experiences growing up in a Jewish immigrant family on New York City’s Lower East Side. Her books helped establish Jewish family life and traditions as a natural subject in American children’s fiction.
