T. H. White (Terence Hanbury White, 1906–1964) was an English novelist, essayist, and translator who began writing while studying at Cambridge and taught literature before becoming a full-time author in 1937. His first major success was The Sword in the Stone (1938), which grew into the Arthurian sequence The Once and Future King, his best-known work. He also wrote nonfiction, including the nature-and-animal memoir The Goshawk, and produced works on medieval literature, history, travel, and social satire.
