Joshua Slocum (1844–1909) was a Nova Scotian-born American sailor and maritime writer. His best-known work, Sailing Alone Around the World, was first serialized in The Century Magazine in 1899 and published as a book in 1900, becoming a classic of travel literature and sailing memoir. He also wrote Voyage of the Liberdade and Voyage of the Destroyer.
