Patrick Süskind is a German writer, playwright, and screenwriter born in 1949 near Munich. He began his writing career with screenplays and achieved international success with his one-person play The Double Bass in 1984, followed by his acclaimed 1985 novel Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. He also wrote The Pigeon, The Story of Mr Sommer, essays, short stories, and scripts for German television.
