Rachel Aviv is an American journalist and author who has been a staff writer at The New Yorker since 2013. Her reported writing explores psychology, mental illness, medicine, medical ethics, criminal justice, and education. She is the author of Strangers to Ourselves and You Won't Get Free of It, and her work has received major journalism honors, including a National Magazine Award and a George Polk Award.
