Michael Johnstone was born and educated in Edinburgh and began his career as a teacher before working in publishing, including roles at William Collins and Octopus. He became a freelance writer in 1991 and has written more than 60 books, mainly nonfiction for children and adults, covering subjects such as history, mysteries, Freemasonry, fortune-telling and magic. His fiction includes the twelve-book Aliens series, and his children’s science book My History News: In Space was runner-up for the 2000 Aventis Prize.
