George Lamming (1927–2022) was a Barbadian novelist, essayist, poet, and influential voice in Caribbean literature. He moved to England in 1950 and became part of the Caribbean literary renaissance, gaining acclaim for his debut novel In the Castle of My Skin (1953), followed by works including The Emigrants, The Pleasures of Exile, and Natives of My Person. His writing explores colonialism, migration, Caribbean identity, language, and the historical legacy of empire.
