Alfred Bester (1913–1987) was an American science fiction author, editor, and writer for comics, radio, and television. He began publishing science fiction in 1939 and became best known for The Demolished Man, which won the first Hugo Award for Best Novel, and The Stars My Destination. His inventive, experimental fiction influenced the later New Wave and cyberpunk movements.
