Derek Thompson is an American writer, podcaster, and author who spent 17 years as a staff writer at The Atlantic before becoming an independent newsletter writer and continuing as a contributing writer. He is the author of Hit Makers, a nonfiction exploration of why cultural products become popular, and coauthor with Ezra Klein of the bestseller Abundance. He also wrote On Work, an anthology of essays about labor and technology, and hosts the Plain English podcast.
