Steven Pinker is a Canadian-American cognitive psychologist and author whose nonfiction writing career began with The Language Instinct in 1994. He has since written widely read books on language, the mind, human nature, violence, writing style, rationality, and social progress, including How the Mind Works, The Blank Slate, The Better Angels of Our Nature, Enlightenment Now, and Rationality. He also writes essays for publications including The New York Times, The Atlantic, Time, and The Guardian.
