Walter Rodney (1942–1980) was a Guyanese historian, author, and scholar-activist whose writing combined archival history with Marxist political economy and Pan-African analysis. He wrote influential works including A History of the Upper Guinea Coast, The Groundings with My Brothers, and How Europe Underdeveloped Africa, as well as essays, political pamphlets, and studies of African and Caribbean societies. His scholarship examined slavery, colonialism, capitalism, underdevelopment, and liberation movements.
