Writing as Rutger, he publishes fast-paced thriller, horror, and science-fiction novels, including The Anomaly and The Possession. Smith is also an acclaimed short-story writer, a four-time British Fantasy Award winner, and the author of novels published under the names Michael Marshall Smith and Michael Marshall.
