Leila Mottley is an Oakland-born novelist and poet who was named Oakland’s Youth Poet Laureate in 2018. Her debut novel, Nightcrawling, became an Oprah’s Book Club pick, a New York Times bestseller, and a Booker Prize longlist title. She is also the author of the poetry collection woke up no light and the novel The Girls Who Grew Big.
