William Butler Yeats (1865–1939) was an Irish poet, dramatist, and literary critic who became a leading figure of the Irish Literary Revival. His early writing drew on Irish mythology, folklore, and Romantic symbolism, while his later poetry developed a more modernist style. He co-founded Dublin’s Abbey Theatre and received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1923.
