Alan Sillitoe (1928–2010) was an English novelist, short-story writer, poet, and playwright associated with the Angry Young Men. He became prominent with Saturday Night and Sunday Morning (1958) and The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner (1959), works known for their unsentimental portrayals of working-class life, social conflict, and rebellious outsiders. He went on to publish more than 50 books across fiction, poetry, travel writing, drama, and children's literature.
