Yoko Ogawa is a Japanese novelist and essayist who began publishing in 1988 and has written more than twenty works of fiction and nonfiction. She won Japan’s Akutagawa Prize in 1991 for Pregnancy Calendar and has received major Japanese literary awards, including the Yomiuri Literary Prize for The Housekeeper and the Professor. Her work has been widely translated, with fiction appearing in publications such as The New Yorker, A Public Space, and Zoetrope.
