Joseph Campbell (1904–1987) was an American mythologist, writer, editor, and lecturer whose career focused on comparative mythology, religion, psychology, and literature. His landmark book The Hero with a Thousand Faces introduced the idea of the universal hero’s journey, while his four-volume Masks of God explored myth across world cultures. Campbell later brought his ideas to a broad audience through books including Myths to Live By, The Power of Myth, and Pathways to Bliss.
