Laura Imai Messina is an Italian author born in Rome in 1981 who moved to Tokyo at age 23 and has lived in Japan ever since. She made her literary debut with the novel Tokyo Orizzontale in 2014 and gained international recognition with The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World, translated into more than 20 languages. Her writing—spanning novels, essays, cultural books, and children’s literature—often explores Japan, grief, memory, relationships, and everyday beauty.
