Jin Yong, the pen name of Hong Kong writer Louis Cha Leung-yung (1924–2018), began publishing serialized wuxia fiction in 1955 with The Book and the Sword. He went on to write 15 highly influential martial-arts novels, including The Legend of the Condor Heroes and The Deer and the Cauldron, while also working as a journalist and co-founding the newspaper Ming Pao. He completed new novels in 1972 and later devoted years to revising his earlier works.
