Bryan J Mason wrote his first novel, Shaking Hands with the Devil, in 1990, but it was not published until he redrafted it more than 30 years later. He is now a full-time crime writer known for black-comedy crime fiction, including the Harry Burnard series set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles. Before becoming a novelist, he worked as a financial and forensic investigator, mediator, and BBC Radio sound-effects maker; he also writes theatre reviews.
