Shane Bauer is an American investigative journalist and author, best known as a senior reporter for Mother Jones. His reporting has covered international conflicts, imprisonment, and the U.S. private-prison system, including an undercover assignment as a prison guard that became American Prison. He co-authored the memoir A Sliver of Light about his imprisonment in Iran with Sarah Shourd and Joshua Fattal.
