Roberto Bolaño (1953–2003) was a Chilean poet, novelist, short-story writer, and essayist who co-founded Mexico’s avant-garde Infrarrealist poetry movement in the 1970s. After moving to Spain, he shifted from poetry to prose and produced a major body of novels and stories, including The Savage Detectives, By Night in Chile, Distant Star, and 2666. His work blends autobiography, literary criticism, political history, dark humor, and experimental narrative forms.
