James Kaplan is an American author, journalist, biographer, and novelist who began his writing career publishing fiction in The New Yorker. His essays, reviews, and profiles have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Vanity Fair, Esquire, and other major publications. He has written novels including Pearl’s Progress and Two Guys from Verona, as well as nonfiction and biographies such as Frank: The Voice, Sinatra: The Chairman, Irving Berlin: New York Genius, and 3 Shades of Blue; he has also coauthored memoirs with John McEnroe, Jerry Lewis, and Marina Abramović.
