Richard Powers is an American novelist whose career began with Three Farmers on Their Way to a Dance, published after he left computer programming to write full-time. His intellectually ambitious fiction blends literary experimentation with science, technology, music, history, and environmental concerns. His major works include The Gold Bug Variations, Galatea 2.2, The Echo Maker, The Overstory, and Bewilderment; The Overstory won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, and The Echo Maker won the National Book Award.
