Françoise Sagan (1935–2004) was a French novelist, playwright, screenwriter, and memoirist. She achieved international fame at age 18 with Bonjour Tristesse (1954), a bestselling, controversial novel about youth, desire, and emotional ennui. She went on to publish more than 30 novels, along with plays, short stories, essays, screenplays, and autobiographical works, often exploring love, solitude, passion, and affluent social circles.
