Joe Hyams was an American Hollywood columnist, journalist, and author who covered the film industry for the New York Herald Tribune and other major publications. He wrote or co-wrote more than two dozen books, including bestselling biographies of Humphrey Bogart and James Dean, Hollywood novels and memoirs, and nonfiction works on martial arts, philosophy, crime, and politics. His 1979 book Zen in the Martial Arts drew on more than 25 years of martial arts study, including training with Bruce Lee and Ed Parker.
