Ayana Ellis was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She discovered her talent for writing while working as a legal assistant, and her career took off after her short story "Last Woman Standing" appeared in Girls from the Hood Part 4 in 2007, the same year her debut novel Love Changes was published. She has since written urban fiction and relationship-focused books including Full Circle, King Me, King and I, and Don't Be a Dumb Bitch: The Female Guide to Life and Love.
