Thomas Savage (1915–2003) was an American novelist whose literary career spanned five decades and thirteen novels. After publishing his first story in 1937 and his debut novel, The Pass, in 1944, he eventually left teaching to write full-time. Drawing heavily on his experiences growing up on a Montana ranch, he became best known for psychologically complex Western novels, especially The Power of the Dog (1967), and published his final novel, The Corner of Rife and Pacific, in 1988.
