John Henry Patterson (1867–1947) was an Anglo-Irish army officer, hunter, engineer, and author whose writing career grew out of his experiences in East Africa. His best-known book, The Man-Eaters of Tsavo (1907), is a memoir of overseeing Uganda Railway bridge construction in Kenya and hunting the lions that attacked the workforce. He later wrote further African hunting and travel narratives, as well as memoirs of his World War I service with the Jewish Legion.
