Kiran Desai is an Indian-born novelist who grew up in India, England, and the United States before settling in New York. Her first novel, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard, was published in 1998; The Inheritance of Loss won the 2006 Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her third novel, The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny, was shortlisted for the 2025 Booker Prize.
