Gilles Deleuze (1925–1995) was a French philosopher and writer whose career began with influential studies of major philosophers including Hume, Nietzsche, Spinoza, Kant, and Bergson. He later developed an original body of work on difference, desire, politics, literature, art, and cinema, writing major books both independently and with Félix Guattari, including Anti-Oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus. He taught at the University of Paris VIII from 1969 to 1987 and remained a prominent figure in twentieth-century continental philosophy.
