Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986) was an Argentine writer whose career spanned poetry, essays, translations, and short fiction. He gained international recognition through collections such as Ficciones and The Aleph, whose labyrinthine, philosophical stories explored infinity, identity, memory, books, and the boundaries between reality and imagination. He also directed Argentina’s National Library and received major international literary honors, including the Miguel de Cervantes Prize.
