James S. Trefil is an American physicist and prolific science writer who has written more than 50 books and numerous articles for general audiences. His work explains physics, cosmology, astronomy, scientific literacy, and the implications of science in everyday life, including books such as Science Matters, A Scientist in the City, Imagined Life, Cosmic Queries, and Supermassive. He is the Clarence J. Robinson Professor of Physics at George Mason University and has also contributed to Smithsonian Magazine and other science publications.
