E. C. R. Lorac was the principal pen name of British crime writer Edith Caroline Rivett, who also wrote as Carol Carnac and Mary Le Bourne. She began publishing detective fiction in 1931, creating the recurring investigator Chief Inspector Robert Macdonald, and went on to write prolifically through the 1930s–1950s for publishers including Collins Crime Club. Her work has since been rediscovered as a notable example of Golden Age British crime fiction.
