Ian McEwan is a British novelist and screenwriter whose writing career began with the award-winning short-story collection First Love, Last Rites. He went on to write acclaimed novels including Amsterdam, which won the Booker Prize, Atonement, The Children Act, Nutshell, Lessons, and What We Can Know. His work often combines literary realism with psychological intensity, Gothic elements, historical settings, and speculative ideas, and several of his novels have been adapted for film.
