George Long (1800–1879) was an English writer, classical scholar, editor, and translator. He edited the Penny Cyclopaedia, contributed articles on Roman law and classical subjects to major reference works, and edited scholarly editions of Greek and Latin texts. He is best known for his translations of Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations (1862), Epictetus’s Discourses (1877), and selections from Plutarch’s Lives.
